Abstract
This paper proposes a timeout strategy namely Arrival Intensity based Timeout Strategy intended to defend the Backlog Queue of the web server under SYN flooding. Daniel Boteanu et.al.(2007) proposed and analyzed three timeout strategies. Based on those timeout strategies a proposal is made to define a new timeout strategy, which has the potential of adjusting the timeout based on the arrival intensity that is the primary input to the Backlog Queue. Numerical computations are  also carried out to illustarte  the benefit that could be derived upon the deployment of the timeout strategy. As a part of this work an algorithm has been developed.
